As a side dish a 1 cup serving is plenty so you will have 4.53 carbs in one serving of this recipe. 14.12 total plus 4 net carbs gives you a total of 18.12 carbs. This dish contains 2 total cups of tomatoes which is 14.12 plus one half of a medium onion contains 4 net cabs. 1) Tomatoes are considered fp in moderation but with 1 cup having 7.06 grams of carbs the serving size does need to be considered. In case you’re unfamiliar with it, Creole is usually a milder version of Cajun cooking spice wise, but just as flavorful. Add onions, bell peppers, celery, garlic, and tomatoes, and cook for 20 minutes more or until. Cook until okra is no longer slimy, which takes about an hour. Add okra to the pot and cook on medium/low heat, occasionally stirring careful not to burn okra. From my husband “You know I’m not a fan of okra, but that was good!” Then from my daughter I got, “That was the least slimy okra I’ve ever eaten.” – That’s because it isn’t at all slimy in this dish! All okra comments from the peanut gallery aside this dish is a really tasty Creole side. Place a large, heavy pot on a burner and pour the oil into it to heat. I served this to my a couple of my toughest okra critics and got better reviews than I expected, what with their negative bias against my beloved okra. I use Adobe Illustrator for all my designs, and a Cricut Maker to bring my creations to life. And, of course, it felt fitting to do it during the Halloween season! She cosplays as a cute plague doctor on occasion, and I thought it would be fun to make a couple of “fancy” masks that she would enjoy. This project was actually inspired by my little sister. If you wanted to use them functionally, though, you could! You would just need to get larger paper, and some transparent material for the eye pieces. And, since I planned to use these for decorative purposes rather than functional ones, I didn’t make the eye pieces see-through. I had designed them larger, to begin with, but ended up scaling them down in order to allow the pieces to fit on normal-sized paper. So, I was really pleased when they actually came together the way I had imagined!Īs they are now, these masks are slightly too small to fit on the face of an adult. How cool is that!? Like most of my 3D projects, I wasn’t 100% sure about how these would turn out. Finish your mask by adding any other ribbon/gem accents you so desire! Take your triangle piece and attach it to the bottom tabs on each side of the mask-following along the edge, and gluing one or two tabs at a time.ĥ. Be sure that it is firmly in place before moving on to the next step.Ĥ. Attach the two sides of the mask together using the tabs along the top. I also included a ruffle of ribbon around the eye pieces, but that’s totally optional!ģ. Start by layering on the decorative pieces on both sides of the mask. I used a lime green color to mark the score lines, so hopefully that helps! The black mask also includes lines that need to be set to “pen.” If you’re having trouble with the score lines, check out this video.Ģ. Note: If you are using the SVG files that includes the score lines, don’t forget to set them as such in Cricut Design Space and attach them to their shapes before sending them through your cutting machine. Use your cutting machine or X-ACTO knife, along with my template, to cut out all of the pieces of the plague doctor mask. Watch a short video of me putting this project together on Instagram. That’s the beauty of papercrafts like these-you can use whatever color/style of paper and whatever decorative accents you like. Hopefully this project doesn’t seem too macabre, because I really enjoyed creating these two designs! And if the traditional black plague mask doesn’t suit your fancy, then you can dress it up in a way that does. Like this design? Consider leaving a tip to show your support. For each trial, students build expressions, write observations, and then write a rule that they believe applies to the expressions they examined. Students will move from working with additive inverse, like 3 and -3 to working with positive and negative integers with different values. Let students work at their own pace as they complete all 6 trials. The discovery lab has a different purpose all together. Keep in mind that you’ll give notes later on in the unit. A discovery lab is for building background and not for notes to refer to later. Students are very used to waiting for the answer and then writing it down. I wouldn’t do this for every trial or some students will wait to write anything until you have people share (sneaky, sneaky!). In your classroom, after the first trial you might want to let students share what they wrote for their rule. So, I give them sentence starters like these: Some students may need help with how to start writing the rule. In the first trial I want them to conclude that when a positive number and its inverse are put together they make zero. This partnership part is most important for the discussion that happens. I give each student their own mat and have all students do the modeling. When my students get going with this discovery lab, I have each partnership or group work through the first trial together. Trying is the most important part of what they’re doing. Again, it’s important to focus on the fact that it’s a challenge. Then, they’ll have to write a rule about that case. They’ll model a few different examples of expressions that follow a rule. This will help students to put their guard down.įor this discovery lab, explain to students that they are trying to figure out the rules related to adding and subtracting positive and negative whole numbers, or as we are going to call them from now on, INTEGERS. Remind students that they’re trying to figure something out that you haven’t even studied yet. It helps to frame the discovery lab as a challenge. There’s a fine balance between students struggling and not getting too discouraged. The main premise of a discovery lab is that students, through trials, will draw their own conclusions and make meaning of the math they’re exploring. Once they’re clear on these rules, they’re ready to move on to the challenges. Before moving on, be sure students understand that 1) they will always start at zero, 2) each arrow has a different length to represent a number, and 3) when a number is positive, the arrow points to the right when a number is negative, the arrow points to the left. That’s the first step of the discovery lab. They’ll build the expression on the number line by starting at zero, placing the arrow that represents the first number, and then placing the second number. Students will be given positive and negative integers. The important part here is just to show them how to use the arrows and the number line itself. You can do this without getting into the math yet. I model a couple of examples and have the students follow along. We take a few minutes to just establish how to use the number line. I start the discovery lab with a workmat that has a number line on it (see the pic below). The best part is that they have to write rules, in their own words, to explain what is happening. The additive inverse discovery lab that I’ll walk you through here does a great job of giving students a concrete view of what is happening when they are adding and subtracting integers. I find that using number lines as much as possible is a great cornerstone for the building of the conceptual understanding when working with integers. It feels like you’re breaking down a wall and then rebuilding it. Getting past this strong built-in understanding can take a while. I’ve even found that many teachers have the same rigidity when it comes to adding and subtracting integers. That’s great! The flip side of that is that you have to work hard to break that schema so that they’ll understand negative integers. Students have a very strong background in positive integers. Through all of my experiences teaching about adding integers there is something that’s always true. Today I’ll share with you how my students get introduced to adding positive and negative integers through a discovery lab approach. Then, when you start the teaching and modeling, they have a place in their brain to put that new information. Discovery labs are an ideal way to start a new topic because it helps students build their own conceptual model right from the get-go. Why? Well, these activities help students face their misconceptions head on. One of my favorite ways to introduce new topics is with a discovery lab. Working with positive and negative integers is something that can throw students off at first. Even if you have a fast computer you're going to sit there and download several hundred megabytes when you just want the base game and maybe 1 expansion? It's the modders for forcing people to download and load everything at once. If Tabletop Simulator crashes while attempting to load a mod - it's not the player's fault for having a computer with 4GB of ram. That's still not a valid reason for the expansions not to be in bags. Same thing goes for X-Wing with every expansion. If people want to play Arkham Horror with every expansion then sure - go right ahead and yes you'll need 8GB of ram for that probably. Needless to say it runs silky smooth on 4GB of ram. The best available version of it with high quality cards and 3D models for all the tiles and creatures unfortunately isn't available on the workshop as the modder was forced to go underground. Descent for example also has a ton of components and cards. Games with as many cards as Arkham Horror are far and few between. Here is a picture for you viewing pleasure (I was going to do more than one, but Steam removed the others) And before you say "But people usually only play with one expansion, maybe two" there are a very large number of people who play "All in." Not none, but out of those I'd say at most 100 cards out of the well over 1000, could actually be taken out and copied as duplicates). (shows you total number of components, and while things like money are duplicated, very few of the cards are. If you can get a game with as many physical components as Arkham Horror has, to not struggle even with 4 gigs of RAM, I'd salute you. None of these games should require 8 GB of ram but sadly many do because people aren't thinking about texture memory when creating the mod even though they should be. Just avoid the mods that didn't do it properly and you'll be fine. Originally posted by Aabra: There are many high quality mods out there that don't abuse memory like some do. And like the VW, the Protegé was praised for its handling, particluarly this third-generation, on Mazda’s BJ platform. The Protegé was separated from Mazda’s 323 hatchback in 1990, much the same as the Jetta came from VW’s Golf. Mazda’s Protegé follows the VW Jetta rulebook fairly closely: a small, light sedan with a nice tight chassis and a good torquey little engine. It looks like the door opens and closes all right, so who cares about a little sheetmetal damage? It doesn’t take much for an insurance company to total out a cheap old car, but it’s not like you’re going to ever want to carry full coverage on a $500 car anyway. The seller notes that the title is branded, due to a little wrinkle in the left rear door sill/dogleg area, and it looks like the door has been replaced. The rest of the car looks pretty good: the interior is intact but a little grubby, and for the most part the exterior is fine. The engine is healthy otherwise, making good compression, so throwing a little time and money into the fuel system would seem to make sense. The seller believes it to be electronic in nature, either a failed computer or a grounding issue. And therein lies the problem with this particular Jetta: the fuel injection system is on the fritz. This 1990 model is equipped with VW’s Digifant engine control system, which combines electronic fuel injection with digital ignition control. This Jetta is a gasoline-powered model, with a single-overhead-cam engine displacing 1.8 liters. In the US, Volkswagen sold twice as many Jettas as Golfs American drivers never really embraced the hatchback the way European drivers did, at least until recently. A little bigger, a little fancier, this is the car that set the stage for the sales success of the third and fourth generation Jettas. VW’s Jetta sedan really came into its own in its second generation, introduced to the US in 1985.
